November 14, 2008: Meteorite Expert Speaks at Library
Right before the annual Leonid Meteor Showers, Carla Barringer Rabinowitz presented a very cool talk on meteorites at the library. It included the fascinating story of her grandfather Daniel Moreau Barringer, the discoverer of Arizona’s Meteor Crater and the first person to prove the impact of a large body from space on the Earth.

October 27, 2008: Preschool Halloween Party
Come one, come all to the littlest costume party around! On Monday,
October 27th at 10:30am, the Library celebrated Halloween and the arrival of fall with pumpkin decorating, face painting and dressing up. Trick or treating at the desk and lots of ghastly snacks to go around!

September 22, 2008: Preschool Story Time
Everyone with children from birth to five years of age is welcome to attend this fun program. Jen Bartkus reads stories, provides healthy snacks, and sometimes craft projects. There is plenty of time for play and visiting (both for the children and caregivers). People are welcome to attend whenever they like. There is no pre-registration required.

July 2, 2008: The Royalston Shakespeare Company performs Julius Caesar
Thunderstorms, backstabbers, political intrigue, and unintendend consequences were loosed in our Town Hall, July 2, 2008 at 7 pm. This free youth theater workshop performance featured Royalston’s own Kelsey Savoy, Ryan and Meredith Carrier, Grady and Owen MacPhee, Michele Thompson, Katie Robinson, Hannah Bartkus, John and Addie Ramsdell, Asher, Caleb and Tobey Chase, Isabel O’Connor, Emily Mangum, Marnie Anair and Noah Easton as well as talent from Athol, Winchendon, Orange, Petersham, New Jersey and California. The RSC is a Friends of the Library Production with support from the Royalston Cultural Council, the Salvation Army, Theresa Burgess, and Athol High School as well as many supporters from our community. July-August 2008: Artist Exhibit
Robert Anthony, a Royalston resident for the last 12 years, displayed several of his intricate scroll works at the library. Scrollwork is created with tiny drill bits that are used to carefully drill out portions of intricate patterns to produce an amazing picture.

March 13, 2008: Cross Culture Club visits Colombia with Eduardo Ramirez
For the past decade, the Friends of the Library have been bringing a taste of the wider world to kids in Royalston. Cross Culture Club participants learn about a culture by locating it on a map and trying activities like pronouncing a smattering of a new language, playing a game, looking at pictures, creating a craft and/or eating typical foods.

February 20-22, 2008: February Vacation Art Class
Kids, Tweens and teens, ages 8 and up, were invited to particpate in library sponsored art classes at Town Hall taught by local artist ME Kane. Participants learned to work with acrylic paints and other media to create still-lifes and nature-based projects.

January 12, 2008: Twelfth Night Contra Dance
Once again, the Friends of the Library sponsored a community contra dance. It was at the Town Hall from 7 - 8:30 pm. Dances were taught by Norah Dooley and accompanied by the stage full of local musicians who make up the No Name Band. A Traditional Twelfth Night cake, which has a hard bean and a pea baked inside, was served. Revelers who were served cake containing the royal legumes were crowned royalty for the dance.
